Unity Twp. Farmer Used Surveillance Video To Help Police Catch Burglar

UNITY TOWNSHIP, Pa.,None — A farm owner in Unity Township who installed surveillance video cameras after the farm was burglarized several times, has helped police make an arrest.

State police said the camera's caught Jonathan Metcalf stealing on camera and they used the images to arrest a man.

The farm owner, Ralph Frye, said he put the cameras up after his farm was robbed multiple times recently.

"It takes a lot of guts, or I don't know what it takes. But just to show up and walk around like they own the place and take what they want," said Frye.

Investigators said they burglary happened in broad daylight last month while Frye was home. They said Frye was out in the field milking his cows when the crime occurred.

"It's just so disturbing. It's the third time and it's hard to recoup on the tools," said Frye. "Every day we operate, we operate at a loss. Not just me, but every dairy farmer right now. Things are really tight. Maybe somebody else can afford to be robbed, but we can't."

Frye said a total of $400 worth of items were stolen.

Metcalf faces burlary charges. He is also charged with stealing from another farmer. Police said Metcalf would sell the stolen tools to independent contractors.
