Vaping outlawed at local township parks, playgrounds

ROSTRAVER, Pa. — Signs were just added to parks and playgrounds across Rostraver outlawing vaping. Commissioners said they took this step as a proactive measure to keep kids safe.

“We felt there was an urgency and a need,” explained Commissioner John Lorenzo.

Lorenzo said the decision to ban vaping at parks and ball fields was easy.

“We wanted to jump on it now and have a no-vaping policy, not only in our Diviglio Sports Complex but in all of our parks throughout the township to protect the children,” he said.

Parks were already tobacco-free, but because of the long-term health effects still being unknown with vaping, commissioners wanted to snuff it out all together.

“Secondhand vaping is just like secondhand smoke. There is a danger and a risk there. I don’t want kids playing soccer and T-ball getting a whiff of that second hand. That’s getting in their system. We want to promote positive and healthy habits here,” he said.

Parents at the local parks said Monday they’re on board with the plan.
