Woman who police say orchestrated kidnapping, beating of her boyfriend turns herself in

MCCANDLESS, Pa. — A woman who police said orchestrated the kidnapping and torture of her boyfriend turned herself into police Thursday morning.

Karrie Diaz, 42, of McCandless was charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, conspiracy, terroristic threats and reckless endangerment, according to court documents.

The victim told police he was at a bar on East Ohio Street before being knocked unconscious on Cedar Avenue and then woke up tied to a chair in his own home.

The man told officials he recognized Karrie Diaz’s voice, his girlfriend, in the background saying several times, "You’re going to have to kill him."

According to the criminal complaint, Diaz’s brother Joshua Flick and Justin Keller would repeatedly beat him on his bed until he was unconscious. The alleged abuse went on for a week, the victim told police.

After an attempted escape, the man convinced Flick and Keller to take him to a hospital. Before the two left, Flick told hospital staff that the victim had been jumped by five men.

The victim told police that he has a $400,000 life insurance policy and Diaz is the beneficiary.

Police are still searching for Flick and Keller. They're facing the same charges as Diaz, in addition to kidnapping.
