PITTSBURGH — Members of the Steelers defense are holding themselves accountable as they move into Week 5 of the regular season.
The group was honing in on extra details and assignments in practice Wednesday.
Like Aaron Rodgers, defensive lineman Cam Heyward noted that some of the intense emotion that was on display last Thursday night is for the betterment of their group.
In the locker room Tuesday, Nick Herbig told us there needs to be more effort from the players on defense.
Channel 11 Sports Director Jenna Harner asked Cam Heyward if he feels the same. He said he always feels they can bring more effort, but the No. 1 adjustment they need to make is their tackling.
“If we clean that up, we give ourselves a chance to make a lot more plays, get off the field earlier,” Heyward said. “A lot of times, it’s yards after you know contact, and so it’s preventing us from really gaining a lot of steam on play after play and putting an offense in tougher situations.”
As of right now, the 21-day practice window for Deshon Elliott to return from IR has not yet been opened.
Mike McCarthy told us before practice Wednesday that the safety looks good and is definitely getting close.
