Penguins hire Olympian in scouting department

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Penguins announced on Saturday the hiring of a two-time Olympian as a new amateur scout.

Krissy Wendell-Pohl competed in the 2002 and 2006 Olympics, and was inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in 2019. She was also the captain of the first Women’s World Championship Gold Medal team in 2005.

Wendell-Pohl will primarily scout players in the Minnesota area for the Penguins.

Wendell-Pohl was an accomplished player. She recorded 247 points in 147 games with the U.S. National Women’s team, winning the silver and bronze medals.

In high school, she scored 110 goals in her senior year alone.

She will report to Nick Pryor, Penguins’ Director of Amateur Scouting.
