Penguins shake up roster: Friedman on IR, Sceviour waved

PITTSBURGH — The Penguins made a series of roster moves, general manager Ron Hextall announced Monday.

The Penguins put defenseman Mark Friedman on injured reserve retroactive to the date he was injured, March 4. He’s just on regular injured reserve, not long-term injured reserve. Regular injured reserve frees up a roster spot but provides no cap relief. The seven-day timeframe for injured reserve rules Friedman out for at least the next game against the Rangers and the first game in Buffalo.

Blue-collar winger Colton Sceviour was placed on waivers as well.

If he is not claimed by noon Tuesday, he can be assigned to the Penguins’ American Hockey League affiliate in Wilkes-Barre, although the Penguins would not be compelled to send him there.

Sceviour, who has two goals and no assists in 16 games, and defenseman Mike Matheson were acquired from Florida for winger Patric Hornqvist after last season.

The taxi squad received another shakeup -- forward Josh Currie, defenseman Josh Maniscalco, and goaltender Emil Larmi were sent to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton from the taxi squad.
