Big changes coming to Pittsburgh area

PITTSBURGH — The start of November has been unseasonably warm. Temperatures have pushed well into the 70s with some cities hitting the 80s.

Even the rain has stayed away, allowing for a nice mix of clouds and sunshine.

However, summer-like warmth will be long gone by week’s end and sun will be replaced with showers.

“We’re going from summer to late-fall in three days,” said Severe Weather Team 11 Meteorologist Scott Harbaugh.

The big change in weather is due to an incoming system from the north.

“A cold front approaches the area late tonight with a few showers breaking out after midnight,” said Harbaugh. “A period of steadier rain is likely Thursday as the cold front approaches.”

The best chance for steadier rain will be late Thursday morning to early afternoon. Most areas will see rain totals around 0.25 inches.

On top of the rain, folks will have to deal with winds gusting from 20-25 mph. Temperatures will also fall from the 60s to the 50s Thursday afternoon, adding insult to injury.

“Colder air moves in Friday and kids will need the extra layers at the bus stop,” said Severe Weather Team 11 Chief Meteorologist Stephen Cropper. “Wind chills are forecast to drop near freezing early Friday morning.”

Temperatures Friday afternoon are only expected to top the low 50s in Pittsburgh.
