IT’S HERE: Major winter storm impacting holiday travel around Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH — Arctic air and high winds will make for dangerous conditions into the holiday weekend. Winds could gust up to 50 mph (up to 60 mph in the ridges) that could cause power outages and will continue to create dangerous wind chills through the holiday weekend.

A Wind Chill Warning is in effect until Saturday at Noon, wind chills could get as low as -35°F during this timeframe. These dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes. Be smart, be prepared and stay warm inside.

Make sure to protect your home from the cold temperatures that may cause pipes to freeze. Don’t forget your pet, keep them safe from the cold. Check on neighbors and the elderly, make sure they have a way to stay warm.

Also continue to watch for icy travel in spots, and while there will be light additional snow here and there, the snow that has already fallen will be an issue as it will blow around reducing visibility. Traveling will be impacted, be safe and if you don’t need to be on the roads stay home.
