2 arrested on drug, weapons charges in Pittsburgh's Allentown neighborhood

Suspects: Sharon Rue and Dionte Griffin

Two people were arrested Tuesday on numerous charges of drug and firearms crimes in Pittsburgh's Allentown neighborhood.

Dionte Griffin, 20, and Sharon Rue, 23, both of the Hill District, were arrested around 8:30 p.m. after a brief foot chase.

Police said the suspects got into a car and refused to pull over when police tried to initiate a traffic stop. The suspects drove down a dead-end street, got out of the car and ran away, police said. At one point, officers said they saw Griffin throw a gun before he ran in the direction of Carson Street.

Griffin was taken into custody on Sarah Street and was found to be in possession of marijuana, police said. Rue was taken into custody at Carson and 28th streets.

A K-9 retraced the steps of the pursuit and recovered six bundles of heroin and a firearm in the 2800 block of Sarah Street, police said. A search of the vehicle yielded eight bundles and one brick of heroin, they said.

Rue’s charges include firearms not to be carried without a license, persons not to possess a firearm, flight to avoid apprehension, receiving stolen property, possession with intent to deliver, possession of controlled substance, criminal mischief and possessing instruments of crime. His arrest also clears a bench warrant.

Griffin’s charges include firearms not to be carried without a license, fleeing or attempting to elude police, receiving stolen property, possession with intent to deliver, possession of controlled substance, windshield obstructions and wipers, driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked, marijuana possession, tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, reckless driving and possessing instruments of crime.

Rue and Griffin were taken without incident to the Allegheny County Jail.
