WAYNESBURG, Pa.,None — A 14-year-old boy said he was at his stepmother's Crucible home when his father killed the woman and then staged it to appear she had been killed during a robbery.
The defendant, Scott Joseph Baker, 39, of Nemacolin, is accused of strangling and cutting the throat of Melissa Baker, 30, at her mobile home in November 2009 while his son, then 12, and the boy's baby brother were present. The woman worked as a Greene County Jail guard.
Nathaniel Baker testified against his father Tuesday. Melissa Baker's father also testified, saying his daughter was estranged from Scott Baker at the time because he was violent and abusive.
The boy said his father made him stay in the bathroom during the killing, but that he heard noises while it happened.
Testimony was scheduled to continue Wednesday.
