Owner drops plan to sell Brillobox and could reopen with the help of shuttered venue grant money

PITTSBURGH — Brillobox, which enjoyed a 15-year run hosting a range of different musical acts while serving a menu with a cross-section of vegetarian and vegan offerings, may soon get a new life.

After the business went up for sale last summer when the pandemic made running any kind of live performance venue untenable, the ownership of the Brillobox has turned down offers to sell and is listed as a recipient of the federal Shuttered Venue Operators Grant program administered by the Small Business Administration.

According to a database of the recipients of the venue grant program, Brillobox is listed to be awarded $245,000 through the program, a value that’s a considerable portion of the $290,000 list price at which Ross-based Speciality Group was marketing the business.
