State announces recipients of hazard pay grants, more than 160 firms in SW Pa. get money

PITTSBURGH — The Wolf Administration on Monday announced the companies in the state that had landed grants to pay employees hazard pay during the pandemic.

The program, which had $50 million to disperse, was announced last month and had more than 10,000 applications. The money comes from the state’s allocation of federal CARES Act funding.

“Pennsylvania’s front-line workers put themselves and their loved ones at risk each day they report to work to ensure the continuation of critical goods and services for their communities, and hazard pay is an important opportunity to compensate these vital workers,” said Gov. Tom Wolf. “It is undeniable that Covid-19 has put incredible stress on Pennsylvania’s economy, health care system and workforce, and my administration is committed to supporting our businesses and communities as we continue to navigate this global pandemic.”

In all, 639 employers received grants. Of those, 162 were based in southwestern Pennsylvania, including 23 that received more than $100,000.
