Channel 11 Gets Inside Look At Zambelli Fireworks Internationale In New Castle

NEW CASTLE, Pa.,None — Channel 11 took a rare look inside Zambelli's Fireworks Internationale in New Castle. Friday, WXPI went behind the curtains as preparations continued for the EQT Flashes of Freedom Fireworks Fantasia.

Crews said it takes a lot of work to generate the spectacular display of fireworks seen in downtown Pittsburgh on the Fourth of July, and it's all done by a local company.

Lou Zambelli, 84, said he has put together fireworks displays for 68 years. Founded in 1883, Zambelli said his company has put on shows around the world.

Zambelli said the first thing done for the EQT Flashes of Freedom Fireworks Fantasia display, are the pyrotechnic elements, which are manufactured on site. He said the fireworks are then handpicked from more than 1 million products held at 100 bunkers on the 500 acre New Castle site.

Doctor George Zambelli, Lou's nephew, gave Channel 11 a sneak peak at some of the fireworks set to go off on the Fourth of July.

"Here's a gold flyer with a blue pistol," said George. "This will be used in the segment that honors our policemen."

Zambelli isn't giving many more details about what spectators will see Sunday, but had a simple message for everyone who'll be watching.

"This show in Pittsburgh is going to be bigger and better than ever," he said.

George said there will be six barges with fireworks and new geometric patterns and color combinations.
