DA reviews complaints against Steel City Flooring

While the number of complaints against a flooring company continues to grow, the district attorney is now involved to determine if criminal charges will be file.

Steel City Flooring is accused of taking money for work they never did before hanging up a “closed for remodeling” sign on their door. More than 20 victims said they’ve lost thousands of dollars.

The sign on the door said the store will open on Wednesday, but since the owner is expected to file for bankruptcy, police said they don’t expect the store to reopen.

The ongoing police investigating intensified after 20 new alleged victims came forward after Channel 11’s investigation last week when two women shared what happened to them.

Beaver Police Sgt. Kelly Hogan said all the victims tell a similar story.

"They all say they went to the store and put a down payment. And some of them have even suggested that they were told put your down payment down now because the price is going to go up,” Hogan said.

Some alleged victims placed their orders at Steel City Flooring in Cranberry, others at the Beaver store.

On Tuesday, a new sign hung on the front door at the Beaver store, The sign from the landlord states that Steel City Flooring “must immediately quit and surrender possession of the lease.” The Beaver police also said the owner of Steel City Flooring has not paid his rent for the past four months.

If the Beaver County district attorney does file criminal charges, Hogan said those charges would likely be fraud or theft by deception.
