CECIL TOWNSHIP, Pa.,None — One person was killed Monday after crashing into a tractor-trailer along Interstate 79 in Cecil Township.
The crash closed the northbound lanes of the roadway for several hours near the Southpointe exit while police investigated the crash.
Victim: Timothy J. Burke Age 50 Tradewind Court, Maineville, Oh 45039
Police said the victim, Timothy J. Burke, 50, of Maineville, Oh. was driving a Toyota Prius when he rear- ended the big rig, which was carrying rebar that extended past the bed of the truck and marked with red flags. The force of the impact forced the rebar through the vehicle's windshield, striking and killing Burke, police said.
"The driver claims he felt an abrupt jolt to his truck, looking in his rearview mirror he saw a car, he immediately pulled off on the north burn of the highway," said Washington County Coroner Tim Warco.
Police have not said what caused the crash.
Warco said the tractor-trailer was driving at a slow speed at the time of the crash.
"You can clearly see behind me the truck has a banner that says wide load in front of it," said Warco. "I do not know if there was a follow or chase car"
Police said there was a flag hanging off of the rebar alerting driver.
