PITTSBURGH — Police are investigating the deaths of two people in Pittsburgh’s Friendship neighborhood.
Pittsburgh Police spokeswoman Sonya Toler said a call came into Allegheny County 911 around 1 p.m. about the incident in the 5000 block of Friendship Avenue.
Toler confirmed the deceased were a husband and wife found in an upstairs bedroom, but declined to give further information. The medical examiner's office has identified the victims as Louis Alviani, 79, and his wife Delores, 70.
According to officials, the person who called 911 to report the incident said there would be two dead people inside the house when officers arrived.
Channel 11 talked to neighbors Saturday afternoon who said they saw the couple only a few hours before the incident. One neighbor even said the husband had offered to carry groceries inside for another neighbor.
The scene changed in a hurry, however, as police and emergency personnel swarmed the area.
"All of a sudden, a conversion of police cars and policemen. On the bullhorn saying "come out, comes out." They charged the house. There were probably 25 police cars after that," said Terry Hudon.
Hudon said he was perplexed as to the reasons behind Saturday's incident.
"You wonder what snapped?" he said. "What brought it to the head that it did?"
Neighbor Angelo Runco also talked to Channel 11, saying it was a shock to hear the news.
"It's a shame. It's shocking when something like this happens in your neighborhood," Runco said.
Autopsies are scheduled for Sunday.
