Blue Buffalo recalls food for health risk

Dog food maker Blue Buffalo is recalling a version of its canned food because of a potential health risk.

Dog food maker Blue Buffalo is recalling a version of its canned food because of a potential health risk.

The Blue Wilderness Rocky Mountain Recipe Red Meat Dinner Wet Food for adult dogs, which was sold nationwide, has the potential to carry higher than normal levels of beef-thyroid hormones, according to the Food and Drud Adminstration.

Dogs eating high levels of beef thyroid could show symptoms, including increased thirst, urination and weight loss. The symptoms could subside after use of the food ends. Prolonged exposure could cause vomiting, diarrhea and difficulty breathing.

"If your pet has consumed the product listed above and has exhibited any of these symptoms, please discontinue feeding and contact your veterinarian," the company said in a statement.

The FDA had a call from a dog owner reporting symptoms and informed Blue Buffalo, which started investigating. The dog food maker decided to recall the food with a best buy date of June 7, 2019. The dog is now fully recovered.
