Two Fayette County corrections officers have been fired and a third officer was suspended for 10 days following the reported assault of a jail inmate earlier this month.
The inmate, Robert Stimmel, required hospitalization for a brain bleed after sustaining injuries while in custody.
According to Fayette County District Attorney Mike Aubele, Stimmel’s injuries became visible only after a strip search conducted in an area lacking camera surveillance.
Images of the inmate show his eyes bruised and almost completely closed.
The third corrections officer is set to resume duties following the completion of the 10-day suspension.
The Fayette County District Attorney is continuing to look into the matter and the possibility of criminal charges remains under consideration.
