3 coaches charged in fight during Pennsylvania youth football game

CARNEGIE, Pa. — Police have charged three coaches in connection with a fight caught on camera at a local youth football game.

The fight broke out at Honus Wagner Field in Carnegie during a game between Calynton and Keystone Oaks Aug. 29.

Thursday, Carnegie Chief of Police Jeffrey L. Kennedy announced charges against Carlynton’s head coach and two Keystone Oaks coaches.

By the time officers arrived at the field, the fight was already over, and people were leaving the stadium, Kennedy said.

A witness took video of the incident, which showed Carlynton’s head coach appearing to start the fight, Kennedy said. The coach allegedly continued fighting even after others tried to calm him down.

Kennedy claims the coach threw punches that “could have caused substantial harm and most definitely caused serious inconvenience.”

Two Keystone Oaks coaches also joined in the fight, though Kennedy says they didn’t seem to initiate it.

Carlynton’s head coach has been charged by summons with disorderly conduct and harassment, while the Keystone Oaks coaches have been charged with disorderly conduct.

Dequay Canton, who says he’s the Carlynton Little Cougars’ head coach, issued a statement after the fight, claiming other players were using racial slurs directed at his team. He also alleges that another coach got physical first.

The Steel City Youth Football League reportedly suspended two coaches indefinitely pending an investigation, and the two teams suspended five total coaches on their own.
