Non-profit with goal of ‘restoring true meaning of Memorial Day’ walks through Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH — A group is walking across the United States as they honor those who gave their lives for our country.

Carry The Load walked through Pittsburgh on Friday. 11 News caught up with the group as they headed to the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial in Oakland.

The walk started in Burlington, Vermont, and is headed to Dallas, Texas.

The group said their goal is to restore the true meaning of Memorial Day.

“All of the first responders, veterans, all their families have given so much to their country, so we’re trying to give back and show them that they still really do matter, even after they’ve lost their lives,” said Morgan Cooper with Carry The Load.

Several local groups stopped by to join the walk for the day.
