Sources: Police tracking man seen in surveillance video after back-to-back suspicious crimes

MONROEVILLE, Pa. — Sources tell Channel 11 that police are trying to track down a man seen on surveillance video after two suspicious crimes in Monroeville back-to-back. Sources say the clerk at the Alstan mini-mart on Monroeville Boulevard told police he was robbed at gunpoint as he walked into his Monroeville home on May 22.

“I can’t believe that it happened,” Tracey Mayger tells Channel 11. “Who would want to do that to him?”

The victim also tells police he was tied up with zip ties and put in his own closet before his car, phone and keys to the convenience store were stolen.

“It does upset me very much that something happened even so close to home,” says Valerie Worry, a neighbor.

Within an hour of the armed robbery at the victim’s house, police say a suspect with a different description was seen on the store’s surveillance camera robbing the place and taking off with entire clear plastic cases of lottery tickets and a cabinet of cash.

Regulars at the store say they don’t know who would do this, but it certainly seems targeted.

“Super nice, every time you go in there, they just always welcome you,” Mayger adds. “They give you their assistance and they go above and beyond.”

“I’ve been coming here for a long time so to hear of something like that is very sad,” Worry continued.

As police dig for answers and try to solve this crime, those who stop at Alstan’s every day say they hope to see their friendly clerk back behind the counter soon.

“I hope he gets better quickly,” Mayger said. “I’m sure that was traumatic for him.”
