PITTSBURGH — Law enforcement sources tell Target 11 that multiple people were questioned in connection with Wednesday morning's fatal shooting that claimed the life of a high school senior.
The 17-year-old Pittsburgh Milliones 6-12 student was shot three times in front of his Hill District home.
Pittsburgh Public Schools spokeswoman Ebony Pugh identified the victim as Eric Young.
Investigators said Young had stepped out of his Morgan Street home shortly after 7 a.m. when he was shot several times. Police said his mother witnessed the shooting as she was getting ready to take him to school, and it was a very emotional scene.
Pittsburgh police spokeswoman Sonya Toler said Young's mother attempted to revive him while waiting for emergency crews to arrive.
Homicide investigators said they believe the person who shot Young knew him and it was personal. The shooter was waiting for Young when he walked out of his house, police said.
"We need for people to share with us what they know so we can take the actor involved in this into custody," said Pittsburgh Police Chief Cameron McLay.
"New to the school this year, Eric is described by staff as a student who was popular with his peers and always had a smile on his face," Pugh said. "Eric was very excited about a job he just recently attained at a local supermarket. Our thoughts are with Eric's family during this time."
Shortly after the shooting, family and friends of Young's gathered near the shooting site.
"This kind of senseless killing just has to stop," said Rev. Glen Grayson of Wesley Center AME Zion Church. "He was a beautiful kid. Had great promise. This makes no sense. Guns destroy lives."
Target 11's Rick Earle confirmed that four people were questioned. So far, no arrests have been made.
