PITTSBURGH — It’s been nearly a year since an innocent teen just finishing up a summer job was gunned down in Northview Heights.

Eugene David III's family told Channel 11's Renee Kaminski that they'll never stop seeking justice for the 19-year-old's senseless death.

“The day he was killed, my best friend put this on my neck. It’s a picture of Eugene and I’ve never taken it off,” said David III’s mother, Crystal Price.

David III had a summer job as a laborer, and had just finished his sift when he was caught in the middle of someone else’s gunfight.

“It was right on Veteran’s Bridge near Mercy Hospital, I remember exactly where I was when she said he was dead. I just didn’t believe it,” Price said.

Price told Kaminski she stood on Penfort Street for hours as her first-born son lay motionless on the ground.

“It was 2 o’clock in the afternoon on a Wednesday. There were two groups shooting at each other and Eugene got shot with one of their bullets,” Price said. “Somebody else also got shot that day.”

The 41-year-old victim survived with a gunshot wound to the leg. But as for the men who opened fire, they were never charged.

“Regardless of the circumstances, it’s not OK to pull out guns in the middle of the day. My son was killed. They were a block away from the senior citizens high-rise. There are day camps there for kids. This behavior is not acceptable. When we accept this as the norm, it will never stop,” Price said.

July 30 marks the one-year anniversary of David III’s death. Price is planning to hold a prayer vigil at the spot where her son died.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact police.
