CHARTIERS TOWNSHIP, Pa — Washington County officials are keeping polls open an extra two hours and urging the 23 people who voted by emergency ballot this morning at the Miraculous Medal Banquet Hall to return and cast a provisional ballot. The precinct will remain open until 10 p.m.

Channel 11 was first alerted to problems at the precinct after a viewer reached out, concerned about their vote.

Officials told us there was an issue with the electronic poll book and a paper poll book was used instead. A court order says the 23 voters were not required to sign the poll book, which was a “breakdown in procedural requirements.”

In Beaver County, the Director of Elections tells Channel 11 that two precincts, one in Economy Borough and one in Rochester Borough, had jams in their ballot scanners. The Director of Elections says ballots were placed in an auxiliary tray until troubleshooters were able to clear the jams, adding these are very common election day glitches and nobody was turned away from voting.

A similar jam was reported at the Adams Township municipal building in Butler County. The Elections Director says two ballots were placed in an emergency compartment until the scanner was replaced.

The Director of Elections in Fayette County says a printing glitch that prevented 308 people from getting their mail-in ballots has been remedied.

Officials say they’ve been able to reach everyone by call or email, and as of midday, most of those affected were able to cast a ballot. They’re confident that everyone affected will be able to vote.
