Driver killed, passenger hurt in UTV crash in Washington County

SMITH TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A 20-year-old man was killed and another person was hurt in a crash Sunday in Washington County.

According to the Washington County Coroner, the accident happened near 759 Joffre Cherry Valley Road in Smith Township at around 2 a.m.

The coroner said Cole Shergi, from Burgettstown, was driving a side-by-side off-road utility terrain vehicle when he lost control of the vehicle.

Officials said Shergi wasn’t wearing the safety belt harness equipped on the vehicle and was ejected.

A passenger was taken to the hospital. There’s no word on their condition.

The investigation is ongoing.
