PITTSBURGH — A Duquesne University faculty member was killed in the devastating floods and mudslides along the Nepal-China border.
In a letter shared with Channel 11 on Saturday, Duquesne University President David Dausey announced the death of Mark Cantrell of the John G. Rangos Sr. School of Health Sciences.
Cantrell’s career reportedly brought him around the globe, working to improve health care access for various populations.
“His work in diplomacy, with USAID, with the United Nations and numerous other agencies not only was admirable but also provided our students context and insights that will continue to inform and inspire how they think about their own work serving others,” Dausey said.
As of Friday, the Aug. 26 floods had killed more than 1,300 people in Nepal and Tibet, with around 5,000 people still reported missing, according to the Associated Press.
