Female hit by car in gas station parking lot in Pittsburgh’s North Side

PITTSBURGH — A female was hospitalized and a man is behind bars after a hit and run accident in Pittsburgh’s North Side.

According to Pittsburgh police, officers responded to the Sunoco gas station at 310 Cedar Avenue just before 3:20 a.m. for reports of a female down in the parking lot.

A 911 caller said the car hit the female while leaving the parking lot and didn’t stop, according to police.

Police said the victim was complaining of pain but didn’t know what happened to her.

The victim was taken to an area hospital in stable condition but was later downgraded to critical at the hospital.

Detectives reviewed camera footage from the area and tracked the suspect, identified as 41-year-old William Thomas, turning from North Avenue onto Brighton Road, according to police.

Officers conducted a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle at Marshall Avenue and California Avenue.

Thomas was identified by the Sunoco security guard who witnessed the hit and run, police said.

Thomas was arrested and is facing multiple charges, including recklessly endangering another person, careless driving, and reckless driving.
