Former Collier Township police officer behind bars for violating probation

COLLIER TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Two and a half years after former Collier Township police officer Cory Hurka was arrested, charged, and sentenced for sending sexually explicit text message to teenage girls, he’s in trouble with the law once again.

This time, he’s accused of violating his probation, and sources say he used social media to contact women.

Channel 11′s Gabriella DeLuca spoke with Hurka’s defense attorney, Blaine Jones, on Thursday.

“In Cory’s case, part of the probation dealt with a prohibition of internet access,” Jones said.

And there’s more.

County detectives confirmed they’re investigating a sexual assault allegation against Hurka that allegedly happened while he was still on probation.

As of now, he has not been charged in the sexual assault allegation.

“As far as an investigation goes, it’s not a charge, it’s an investigation. So, there’s no need to give that much life on our end,” Jones added.

Before he was taken back to jail for his probation violation, court documents say he was living in Oakdale, just a few minutes away from his former employer, the Collier Police Department.

Back in 2019, Hurka was charged with asking teenage girls for nude photos, asking them to have sex with him and visiting them at their workplace in his police uniform.

“I think that public officials due owe a higher standard in their behavior, so I understand that. With the last case, at what point in time do we saw he paid his debt to society, and now we can move forward with the new case?” Jones told Channel 11.

As for moving forward, Hurka will be back in court next week to learn his fate.

“It’s a big day, and it’s a big deal. Any time you’re on probation, and you have a violation, the fear is that you either go to jail and/or prison,” he said.

Hurka was also just charged with not updating his work address, which is a requirement when you’re a registered sex offender.
