A former Greene County District Attorney has been convicted of illegally seizing emergency kits from ambulances.
Information shared by Attorney General Dave Sunday said David Russo was found guilty by a Fayette County senior judge on Friday.
Investigators said Russo directed a detective who worked for his office to obtain a search warrant, without probable cause, to seize “Stop the Bleed” kits from county ambulances.
The AG’s office said those kits were specifically designated for mass casualty events and removed from ambulances that were actively in service.
“This defendant took an oath to serve and protect citizens of Greene County as its highest-ranking law enforcement official, but instead abused that power to settle personal feuds,” Attorney General Sunday said. “By having these kits illegally seized, the defendant left emergency responders with fewer tools to help residents. This prosecution and verdict show that no one is above the law.”
Russo is currently out on bail. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 10.
Court documents filed in 2024 suggest Russo was also abusing his power to deliver retribution against political enemies and bolster his election bid.
