PITTSBURGH — The Allegheny County Government Review Commission voted to release its report on taxes and property assessments.
The commission voiced its support for a state senate bill establishing a property reassessment cycle.
It also noted the county should not wait for a statewide solution and should adopt its own regular reassessment schedule.
The commission makes its recommendations every four years, during the first year of each county executive term.
“The idea is to depoliticize this process so that the reassessment does not happen in an off-election cycle, and it then becomes a political item,” commission member Rohit Acharya said. “We believe that this should be aligned with the election cycle, so in our hopes to make it more routine.”
The government review commission reviews how county government operates under the home rule charter to see what’s working and what’s not, plus suggest changes.
