PITTSBURGH — Local leaders are celebrating the completion of the first phase of a revitalization project of the Historic New Granada in Pittsburgh’s Hill District.
The project includes a cafe, lounge and commercial kitchen on the first floor, a 900-person event space on the second floor and Pitt’s Community Engagement Center on the third floor.
Officials say the cultural center, originally built nearly 100 years ago by Black Masons, was nearly lost to time. This project seeks to re-establish the venue as a cultural anchor for the city.
Local leaders are planning an event to celebrate this milestone on Wednesday, starting at 5:30 p.m. It features a ribbon cutting, live jazz outdoors, building tours, a block party with a DJ and food trucks, and the lighting of the newly installed Art Deco marquee.
Phase two of the project began last month.
