RICHLAND, Pa. — Local "America's Got Talent" star Jackie Evancho joined parents Monday night in a fight to stop proposed music program cuts in the Pine Richland School District.
According to Channel 11's news exchange partners at TribLIVE, the school board voted on a new budget that does not include cuts to the music, arts or language departments.
Before the vote was taken, Evancho talked about her younger sister who will participate in the program in two years.
"She also wants to become a big star and to live her dream but that can't be possible if all of this is being cut away from the enjoyment that we have," Evancho said.
The newly proposed budget will cut several physical education positions. The final vote on the budget is set for June 25.
