Kennywood’s Jack Rabbit honored among roller coasters more than 100 years old

WEST MIFFLIN, Pa. — Kenywood’s Jack Rabbit is being recognized for giving riders more than 100 years of fun!

The roller coaster received the Centennial Coaster designation from the American Coaster Enthusiasts on Saturday.

According to the park, the ACE designation honors roller coasters that are 100 years old or older.

“Jack Rabbit had been thrilling the Pittsburgh area for over 100 years with its exquisite double dip into a ravine,” ACE historian Dave Hahner said. “It’s truly become a rite of passage for thrill seekers not only in Pittsburgh, but from around the world.”

Designed in 1920, the Jack Rabbit is the second-oldest continuously operating roller coaster in North America and the second-oldest in the world to use a patented wheel-locking design.

Visitors to Kennywood can see a new Centennial Coaster plaque posted at the Jack Rabbit.
