The Leechburg Area School District has postponed Friday night’s varsity football game against Clairton High School.

Leechburg school leaders made the decision after recent player injuries left the team unable to safely field a roster for the contest.

District officials emphasized that student welfare remains the main focus during athletic competition.

“The health, safety and physical well-being of our student-athletes will always be our highest priority,” the district stated.

School leaders also offered apologies to everyone affected by the cancellation in both communities while thanking Clairton staff.

“We extend our sincere apologies to the players, coaches, families and fans from both communities who were looking forward to Friday’s game,” the district said. “We also deeply appreciate the understanding and sportsmanship of the administration and coaching staff at Clairton High School.”

The district stated that it will provide further information on any upcoming schedule changes.
