PENN HILLS, Pa. — Two local school districts have agreed to restrict access to a high school football game in response to a “potential threat.”
Penn Hills School District announced in a joint statement with Gateway School District that Friday’s game would only be accessible to players’ family members. No other community members, including students, band members, or cheerleaders, will be allowed to attend.
School officials said administrators from both districts met to make this decision after receiving a “potential threat made via the Safe2Say app.”
“We have been working with our law enforcement and school security partners to ensure the safety of everyone who attends this game. We realize this is an unfortunate turn of events for everyone who enjoys Friday night football, but we believe this is the appropriate approach to take in light of this potential threat,” a statement shared by the Penn Hills School District said.
Anyone attending the game is asked to stay alert and watch for updates from the schools in case anything changes.
