WASHINGTON COUNTY, Pa. — A man is facing 20 charges, including homicide by vehicle, for a crash that killed a truck driver on a ramp in Washington County.
Pennsylvania State Police filed charges against Jaxon Farrell, 19, on Monday.
A criminal complaint alleges Farrell was lane splitting between two trucks, one moving and one pulled over, on the Route 22 Eastbound onto the Southern Beltway on Aug. 25. While doing so, he first hit the tires of the stopped truck, then hit and killed the driver, 46-year-old Brian Everhart.
Washington County Coroner Tim Warco previously told Channel 11 that Everhart had parked to the right of the fog line and got out of his truck to check on a mechanical issue.
The complaint states that Farrell kept driving after the crash, but his vehicle broke down not even a mile down the road. Still, a witness told police they saw Farrell trying to change his tire and zip-tie his bumper to keep driving.
Troopers were able to catch up with Farrell before he drove off again. The complaint says he admitted to lane splitting but didn’t know he had hit a person.
In addition to the homicide by vehicle charge, Farrell faces aggravated assault by vehicle, accidents involving death or personal injury, driving under the influence and numerous traffic violations.
