PITTSBURGH — A man accused of assaulting several people during a crime spree in Downtown Pittsburgh is behind bars.
Information shared by Pittsburgh Public Safety officials on Monday said the investigation began when officers were called ot reports of two females who had been assaulted outside a business at the intersection of Penn Avenue and Sixth Street at 8:30 a.m. on Friday.
Police say a man stole cash from one of the victim’s hands. When she and the other person with her confronted him, he punched them both in the face. Officers said he pulled one of the females to the ground and dragged her along the street before running away and getting on a bus.
The man is accused of causing trouble a second time in Katz Plaza a short time later. Police say that’s where he hit a male in the face and then ran away, trying to steal an unidentified bystander’s bag as he ran away.
Officers said they found the man, later identified as Giovanni Moore, 19, of Munhall, at the intersection of Ninth and Penn.
All victims were able to positively identify him as the person who attacked them, police say. None of the victims needed medical treatment.
Investigators say they discovered Moore also stole from several tip jars from several businesses over the past few weeks.
Moore is charged with robbery, three counts of simple assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and prohibited acts.
He is being held at the Allegheny County Jail.
