Man, 23, found dead inside car after police pull vehicle over in Beltzhoover

PITTSBURGH — A man was found shot to death inside a car after police pulled over the vehicle in Beltzhoover.

According to Pittsburgh police, officers were patrolling the area of Industry and Haberman streets early Thursday morning when they heard the sounds of gunfire.

Officers said shortly afterward, a Chevy Impala was seen speeding from the area, toward Washington Avenue and Route 51.

Police followed the car and were eventually able to pull it over a short time later.

Pittsburgh police Cmdr. Rashall Brackney said that when officers walked up to the car, they discovered a man dead in the back seat.

The medical examiner identified the man as 23-year-old Stephon Reed of East Liberty.

Four other people who were inside the car at the time were questioned by police. They said they were stopped near Haberman Street when someone opened fire on the car, killing Reed.

"We can confirm at this point that there is at least one shooter that walked up to the vehicle and discharged the weapon numerous times into the vehicle," said Brackney.

Police said the driver was attempting to get Reed to a nearby hospital, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

So far, no arrests have been made.
