MOUNT LEBANON, Pa. — Roadside Development and Wegmans Food Markets announced Thursday that Wegmans will serve as the anchor tenant of the Galleria of Mt. Lebanon.

The proposed grocery store will occupy approximately 110,000 square feet within the two-story, 168,000-square-foot commercial complex. Existing retailers at the Galleria will remain open while redevelopment plans move forward.

The Galleria originally operated as a Kaufmann’s department store before being converted into an indoor shopping center in 1988. Roadside Development and Wegmans plan to remodel the site while maintaining its commercial character. Jeff Edelstein, president of Roadside Development, highlighted the property’s history in the area.

“For decades, the Galleria has been part of the fabric of the South Hills community. Bringing Wegmans to the former Kaufmann’s site creates an opportunity to build on that history and give residents another reason to make the Galleria part of their everyday lives,” Edelstein said. “We’re focused on positioning the property for long-term success while honoring the role it has played in the community.”

The planned supermarket will include Wegmans’ standard selection of departments, including produce, seafood, meat, bakery, deli, cheese and prepared restaurant foods. The location will also feature an extensive selection of wine and beer.

The Mt. Lebanon project marks Wegmans’ second planned store in the Pittsburgh area following the company’s initial entry into the regional market in 2025. Construction is underway on an approximately 115,000-square-foot location in Cranberry Township, where groundbreaking occurred in August 2026.

Dan Aken, Wegmans vice president of real estate and store planning, commented on the company’s regional expansion.

“As we make progress on our first store in the Pittsburgh market in Cranberry Township, we’re thrilled to take another exciting step in the region with the purchase of the Galleria Mall property in Mt. Lebanon,” Aken said. “We recognize the significance this property holds for the community and see a tremendous opportunity to give it new life. Together with Roadside Development, we look forward to reinventing the site in a way that honors its importance to the community and creates something we can all be proud of.”

Municipal leadership noted the economic impact of the grocery store’s arrival at the shopping complex.

Keith McGill, municipal manager of Mt. Lebanon, noted the local government’s collaboration on the project.

“The redevelopment of the Galleria represents an exciting opportunity to strengthen one of Mt. Lebanon’s key commercial destinations,” McGill said. “We are pleased to work alongside Roadside Development to bring new investment and energy to the property. The addition of Wegmans is a significant milestone that will not only support the Galleria’s long-term success but also bring a highly anticipated amenity to our residents and the surrounding community.”

Renovations at the Galleria are expected to begin in 2028, with additional project details scheduled to be announced as planning progresses. Wegmans’ initial Pittsburgh-area store in Cranberry Township is anticipated to open in fall 2027.
