NEW EAGLE, Pa. — There is a massive amount of damage to a New Eagle man’s wheelchair ramp after a hit-and-run driver destroyed it. The man who lives there is literally stuck inside after someone crashed into his ramp and then took off.

“I want to be able to leave my house. Go to my doctor’s appointments, get what I need,” Walter Horner said.

This normal expectation has become impossible for Walter Horner after someone destroyed his wheelchair ramp.

“It’s not fair. I wish the individual would’ve at least told me and said hey this happened; I’m sorry - can we work something out?” Horner said.

Horner says the hit-and-run happened on Union Street last week. He was on the phone when he heard the crash, but he didn’t realize his ramp was destroyed until his caretaker told him.

“Probably one of the toughest things that’s happened to me in a long time,” Horner said.

Now Horner is trapped and unsure what to do.

“Worried - probably more like scared actually, because what do I do? How do you get out of a situation like this when you can’t get out?” Horner said.

He filed a police report and has insurance, but he’s on a fixed income and can’t afford the $500 deductible.

“I had to cancel a doctor’s appointment; I’m waiting on the doctor to get back to me to see if they’ll do a nurse to come in, at least. You know my scripts run out; they’ll do vitals so I can get my medication,” Horner added.

He’s scared there will be a fire or some other emergency, and he won’t be able to get out of his house. Now, he’s pleading to the community.

“Anything anybody can do to help me out. A company that would be willing to help me out, anything. I’m not trying to solicit for fun because that’s not what I’m about, but any help at all I get can and would be graciously appreciated,” Horner said.

Horner says the Monongahela Police collected some evidence that they’re hoping can help identify the make and model of the car involved in the hit-and-run.
