PITTSBURGH — A man and woman are dead after a shooting in Pittsburgh’s Northview Heights neighborhood Wednesday.
Officers were called to the 100 block of Hazlett Street just after 9 a.m. for a two-round ShotSpotter alert, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety Department spokesperson Emily Bourne.
While responding, police received multiple calls about a shooting inside an apartment.
Officers found two people, a man and a woman, dead in one of the units at the complex, Bourne said.
Besides them, no one else was injured in the shooting. Bourne said there is no threat to the public.
Four children — ages 11, 9, 7 and 7 — were inside the apartment at the time. They were taken to UPMC Children’s Hospital as a preventative measure and will undergo forensic interviews later, Bourne said.
Crime scene investigators found multiple shell casings at the apartment. Bourne said damage to the unit indicates that some rounds were fired outside the apartment before the incident moved inside.

Bourne said the investigation is ongoing, and many details are still unclear, including the two deceased people’s relationship to each other and who the four children belonged to.
Witnesses claimed there was some sort of domestic incident before the shooting, Bourne said.
The identities of the deceased and the cause and manner of death have not yet been released.
