Masontown man held for $31K in county gas card purchases

UNIONTOWN, Pa. (AP) — A Masontown man has been jailed on charges that he used a county credit card to purchase more than $31,000 worth of fuel.

The Fayette County public defender's office said 45-year-old Shawn Allen Hall been jailed since Monday when state police traced the purchases to him.

Troopers from the Uniontown barracks said a credit card used to refuel a county recycling truck was either lost or stolen in April 2012. For some unknown reason, the card was never deactivated.

Since then, police said, Hall used the card to buy more than 9,200 gallons of gasoline or diesel fuel at Pacific Pride service stations in Fayette and neighboring Greene counties.

Hall faces a preliminary hearing Dec. 3 on theft and related charges.
