CLAIRTON, Pa. — Through tears, hugs and balloons lifting into the sky, loved ones honored the life of an expectant mother Thursday night.
Police say someone shot and killed 18-year-old Ja’el Torres one month ago at an apartment building in Clairton.
Torres’ unborn child, Jae’Lani, did not survive the shooting.

The mother-to-be recently graduated from McKeesport High School and planned on becoming an orthodontist.
Her family continues to fight for justice, saying whoever is responsible needs to be off the streets.
“Ja’el and Jae’Lani both deserve justice. They will be with us today,” Torres’ aunt, Tiara Snyder, said during a balloon release in Clairton. “And again, whoever this person is, whoever it was, I’m scared because they could do it again. And I really feel they need to be off the streets.”
Allegheny County police have yet to announce any arrests.

Additionally, authorities say Torres’ boyfriend, 18-year-old Jamil Webb-Beasley, the father of her unborn daughter, was shot and killed near a playground in Homestead.

Police have not said whether the two shootings are connected.
