Neighbors shocked after Collier Township mom accused of child abuse, neglect

COLLIER TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Ciera Wellington is facing multiple felony charges after police say she neglected and physically abused her four children at their home in Collier Township.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Wellington after several of her children were found locked out of their residence on Delfred Drive and taken to Children’s Hospital.

The children involved are ages 15, 13, 7 and 3. Neighbors along Delfred Drive reported frequently seeing and hearing the four children playing in the yard, but said they were unaware of any abuse occurring inside the home.

A neighbor living on Delfred Drive expressed shock over the accusations. “You don’t know what’s going on behind someone’s door,” the neighbor said.

The police investigation began when several of Wellington’s children were locked out of the home and subsequently transported to Children’s Hospital.

One child told officers that their mother does not feed them and lies in bed smoking marijuana all day. Police say the children regularly lacked food, prompting a neighbor to recently buy groceries for them.

One of the children also told police that Wellington physically hurts her two youngest children by striking them with cords and spatulas.

A doctor at Children’s Hospital examined the 7-year-old and 3-year-old, documenting multiple injuries including bruises and scars. A local neighbor and grandmother reflected on the allegations of neglect.

“I have a new baby granddaughter. And just… i can’t imagine neglecting a child at all,” the neighbor said. “That’s very disheartening. That’s very disturbing.”

Investigators interviewed Wellington regarding the allegations. During the interview, Wellington denied ever abusing her children or withholding food from them.
