New York-based company proposed mixed-used development in Strip District

PITTSBURGH — Developers are calling plans for building out a new residential community the next great destination along the Allegheny River.

“We’re excited to be investing in Pittsburgh, we love the market,” said Matthew Seybert, an architect with Perkins Eastman.

This week, North River Company, a New York City-based real estate firm, presented a proposal to the city planning commission, seeking approval to move forward on its redevelopment of the 31st Street studios site.

“This has been a long time coming for us, so we’re thrilled to be presenting to you all today,” said Adam Myers of the North River Company.

The property includes eight different industrial shed buildings that would be transformed into four unique development blocks, including food and beverage space, retail, and housing. Plans also include public riverfront access, outdoor courtyards, public restrooms near the riverfront trail, 785 parking spots, and 255 bicycle parking spaces.

The planning commission is slated to vote on the plan later this month.
