Bomb threat at Gateway High School deemed hoax

Gateway High School students evacuated and were dismissed early due to two threats received this morning.

The school received a Safe to Say alert this morning indicating a social media threat was circulating across western Pennsylvania that didn’t specify a district or school, according to a notice on Gateway’s website. That threat was determined to be a swatting incident.

The Gateway High School principal then received a follow-up Safe to Say alert indicating a bomb was placed inside the high school.

The building was then evacuated.

Monroeville police searched the building and did not find a bomb or any explosive device.

The district said they must take necessary precautions regardless of the threat.

Law enforcement is assisting Safe to Say authorities with identifying the IP address and finding the individual who submitted the hoax.

Gateway High School students were dismissed at 11 a.m.
