NORTH VERSAILLES, Pa. — A woman is searching for answers after she says belongings stored at a North Versailles storage facility disappeared from two units she had been renting.
Angelica Holmes said she had stored precious and sentimental belongings at Eastland Storage for about nine months.
She said the items came from her mother’s apartment following her death.
“My mom passed away at the beginning of January. We had to have her apartment cleared out. So what we did is we got storage units,” Holmes said.
Holmes said she went to the facility Sunday and found both units empty.
Receipts she showed Channel 11 indicate the two units cost her nearly $200 a month.
“This was an entire apartment. All my mother’s jewelry, my baby pictures, every heirloom, my dad’s ashes were in there and nobody has an answer,” Holmes said.
Holmes is also preparing for a move and those household items are missing too.
Holmes believes the issue may date to January, when she initially rented a unit at the facility.
She said she was originally assigned a unit but found someone else’s belongings already inside it.
Holmes said a company manager told her by phone to look through the building and find an available unit.
She said she did so and found two units.
Holmes says a representative on the phone verbally approved the change, but management never reflected the change in the contract shown to Channel 11.
“What it seems like happened is the lady assigned me a unit and never switched the unit numbers,” Holmes said.
Channel 11 found that Greg Michaels of Michaels Associates, LLC owns the facility.
We made multiple attempts to contact the LLC and Michaels, who public records indicate lives in Florida, but had not received a response.
All phone numbers have been disconnected and an email listed on the website is inactive.
State records show the facility has active status.
Channel 11 also found a Google review from another person alleging problems at the facility.
The reviewer said they could not cancel a lease or reach anyone in management to remove personal belongings.
Holmes said she has tried calling and emailing Eastland Storage management but has not been able to reach anyone.
“I would like to know if any of my stuff can be recovered,” Holmes said. “If there was the chance that somebody did an auction, who was that? Can I get my stuff from somebody?”
Holmes said she contacted North Versailles police and was told there was little police could do because there was no evidence of a burglary.
Channel 11 reached out to police for more information but had not received a response.
Holmes said she plans to pursue legal action.
