Oasis Community Kitchen celebrates 10-year anniversary

PITTSBURGH — Oasis Community Kitchen in Homewood celebrated its 10th anniversary on Friday.

The coffee shop and kitchen originally opened to create a space for the community to gather.

The kitchen operates in partnership with Bible Center Church to support local residents.

Their joint efforts include after-school programs, an urban farm and assistance programs for people in need.

John Wallace is the senior pastor of Bible Center Church and founder of Oasis Community Kitchen.

“We wanted to make our little piece of earth more like heaven-- and I’m sure there is coffee in heaven,” Wallace said. “So a place for people to come and hang out, meet friends and just be. That’s why we are here. The inspiration was that nothing like this existed.”

The kitchen is located on the 500 block of North Homewood Avenue.
