PITTSBURGH — Police arrested a McKees Rocks man accused of stealing power tools from several North Hills businesses after investigators found some of the items posted on Craigslist.
North Regional Police Chief T. Robert Amman told Channel 11's Brandon Hudson that officers from his department were able to track Jeremy Caskey, 31, on the website.
Authorities said detectives contacted Caskey after seeing items that matched the description of the stolen items on Craigslist.
According to police, Caskey stole construction tools from two businesses in Bakerstown, including Knobeloch Heating and Cooling, on Feb. 20. Police said he also stole power tools from a business in Cranberry Township on Jan. 25 and a business in Wexford on Feb. 13.
“Our van was parked up against the fence over here and he made entrance on the side door. He took all of our tools off the truck,” Knobeloch Heating and Cooling owner Bob Knobeloch said.
Caskey agreed to meet with officers who were posing as customers at a Shop N Save in Shaler on Feb. 25, police said.
Amman said Caskey was arrested immediately upon arriving. He also said more items reported stolen were found inside Caskey’s home when officers executed a search warrant.
Police said Caskey admitted to the thefts valued at more than $5,000.
“We spoke to him and found out not only were there crimes in our jurisdiction, but there were crimes in Allegheny County and even into Butler County,” Detective Scott Rick said.
Caskey is charged with theft, receiving stolen property, burglary and criminal mischief. He faces a preliminary hearing on March 20.
“I’m glad they treated my crime with respect,” Knobeloch said. “It wasn’t anything super major, but I’m glad they made a bust within seven days.”
Investigators told Hudson they’re still looking for Caskey’s accomplice.
