MERCER COUNTY, Pa. — An Oklahoma City man has been sentenced to 37 months in federal prison, followed by two years of supervised release, for fentanyl trafficking in Western Pennsylvania.

U.S. District Judge W. Scott Hardy imposed the sentence on Edwin Hernandez, 25, who previously pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl.

The conviction stems from a Feb. 2, 2022, traffic stop on Interstate 80 in Mercer County. Law enforcement officers stopped Hernandez’s vehicle and seized four kilograms of fentanyl.

Following the initial drug seizure, Hernandez was released on bond while his charges were pending in state court.

Authorities say he fled and was wanted for nearly three years before law enforcement officers apprehended him.
